I can not figure out why I try to make myself costumes every year. Every year it is the same story. I have a great plan. I try to create. I fail. I try again. I fail even worse. I try yet again and make do with what I have. Saturday, was my day to make my costume. I gathered all my old fabrics and started cutting out a pattern. I started out laying on the fabric, with my pencil, marking my shoulders and my sides. Turns out the first try was a complete disaster (this was not a surprise). I tried really hard to get the dress on, but couldn't make it past my head. Funny thing, I let my 3 year old wear it, yeah, it barely fit her! Oh my. On to my second try. I get a shirt from my closet and trace it onto my fabric (I am running out of fabric at this point--so I'm trying to at least get a shirt out of it). Second try, horrific! I still can't get the thing over my head. I even tried cutting the back and putting a 6-inch panel in. Oh dear, I have run out of fabric and have nothing. Nothing to show for all my hard work. I happen to find an old sheet that we don't use anymore (I don't think). I Lay it out and start drawing away. This time, I am very careful to make sure it is plenty big. This one actually fits (for the most part). The neck is way too big and I could use it for an off the shoulder dress. I just don't care anymore. It will have to do. When will I ever learn? When?
Costume done. Now, I need to test out my makeup. I bought a black liquid eyeliner, which, come to find out, is very difficult to put on. I also bought some black eyeshadow. Last night, I was up in the bathroom figuring out how I should do my makeup. I really should have taken a picture, but I was so embarressed with how I looked I didn't want Joe to see me. I was laughing so hard. Apparantly, I am not the greatest makeup artist. Humph. And liquid eyeliner? Who, tell me, uses that stuff. I had it all over my eyelid, an inch under my eye (I really was trying to make it look good). My eyeshadow. Wow. You know that smoky eye look, well, I did not come even close to that look. I seriously looked like a clown. Black eyeshadow and black eyeliner pretty much all over my face. I am trying to look like Cleopatra and it's just not working. Oh my, tonight will be interesting.

I really wish you had taken pictures, but maybe then the picture in my head wouldn't be so funny! FYI: I actually wear liwuid eyeliner sometimes. Wierd, I know!
You are amazing to even attempt to sew your own costume!! I could NEVER so that!! I am sure you looked amazing- you always do!
Cristelle! This is exactly why I took the makeup class at BYU. Granted it was for my major, but it makes for some great Halloween make up. . .I just always forget I have that skill until it is too late for me. I can hook a sistah up! :)
